In August 28th, the opening ceremony of the Suqian port of the canal was announced.
A total of 36 berths have been planned for Suqian Port, which is divided into three phases. The first and second phases of the port have been completed. The third phase and the special railway line are carrying out preliminary work. In the future, Suqian Port will become the first port of the Qianli Canal, with 36 berths of 2,000 tons, annual container throughput of 100,000 standard boxes, and annual cargo throughput of 10 million tons. Suqian Port will become the first port in 18 cities along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the largest open water crossing in northern Jiangsu.
In February 2018, Suqian City issued a policy to support the development of container transport in Suqian Port on the Canal. For three consecutive years since 2018, the municipal financial department has allocated 5 million yuan a year to subsidize the operation of routes, cargo owners and freight forwarders.
It is learnt that Suqian City hopes to adopt a policy to aggregate the source of goods, in 2020, 2030 Suqian port container throughput reached 50,000 TEU and 200,000 TEU respectively, become the main port of container transport in northern Jiangsu. In terms of airline flights, the ports along the Yangtze River in Taicang and Nanjing provinces in 2020 were fully covered in 2020. In the market, there will be more than 20 local shipping agents and more than 6 shipping companies in 2020, and the logistics service capability such as distribution and distribution will be improved significantly.
